New Year, New Piece

I’ll start by wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year!
New Year’s day was a great time to actually start work on the new piece which I haven’t named just yet, but has a working of #MeToo. This continues the themes of the Life Story Quilts but goes in a different direction when it comes to techniques.

I bought a pile of blueish shirts from some local charity shops in November, washed them and put them away in the garage while I had a think. I’ve begun to cut them up and pin onto a cotton backing looking for a sort of harmony.
Whilst I have a definite direction of travel with this one, I’m not entirely sure what the end piece will look like - it’s one of those quilts which will just have to evolve.
I then painted and printed a small piece of fabric - the words in acrylic ink are #MeToo and The sacred feminine, and there is stencilling, stamping, and painting in acrylics.

I then cut this up into a man’s hand shape - thank you family! - and sewed one onto a backing and gently padded it with wool fibres. I think it will do quite well for what I have in mind.
I’m off to finish the hands, and find a way of making some fabric spikes.
Thank you for reading, and I hope you’ll come back soon - I also post more often in the Notes section, and have also just opened an Instagram account as annabelrainbowtextiles
