End of May catch up
The exhibition is over as you know and we’re just waiting for some feedback from the gallery. It has a lovely restrospective review here: https://creativesinstitute.org/artworld-magazine/unravelling-history-how-to-craft-a-great-exhibition

I have started the Windrush portraits but have also taken a few days off. The trouble is I really have to have a clear mind and environment to work happily. I’ve been taking a break enjoying the sun and catching up on gardening. I have a long to-do list at the moment, and sometimes that gets a bit overwhelming and art has to take a back seat until the mood strikes properly again.
A while back I bought myself a ScanNcut machine but have not used it except to check it out. I do prefer things like applique to show the hand of the worker and not be so precise that it looks like it’s machine or AI made. My friend and fellow artist and exhibitor, Laura Kemshall, has recently bought a new machine which has reminded me about mine. I thought it might be good to do a few wobbly circle stencils or anyway different geometric shapes, so that’s also on the to-do list mostly for sketchbooks, which I also love to make.
Below are some images of progress so far on Clarice. 1st image: pencil outline on cloth. 2nd image: stitched outlines and GAC100 +titanium white acrylic as an experiment as the cloth has quite a busy pattern which I don’t want to come through to the face, even though it’s exactly what I want for the body. 3rd image: putting in the bones of Clarice, though obviously not done yet.
